Time to hit some cooler weather, pine trees and yes, a little gambling. This event will be held at Twin Arrows Casino Resort located in the heart of Flagstaff. All meals, registrations, activities, and rides will take place at Twin Arrows Casino Resort.
Did you know that Flagstaff is referred to as the City of Seven Wonders. I know you are asking what are these seven wonders? Flagstaff is located amongst the Coconino National Forest, which is home to the Grand Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon, Walnut Canyon, Wupatki National Monument, Sunset Crater and the famous San Francisco Peaks. The story has it that the name ‘Flagstaff’ had something to do with stripping lone pine tree and making it into a flagpole.
One ride will take you to see Mormon Lake and surrounding area Mormon Lake is the largest natural lake in Arizona... sometimes. During droughts it's frequently not so large, and not so much a lake. Occasionally it's even bone dry. Water or not, this has and beautiful overlook where you can often see wildlife and birds across the lake's landscape. Also located here is the Mormon Lake Lodge where we can visit the little country store and see where the brands of local ranches are burned into the log walls of the steak house.
The second ride will take you to the Cinder Hills area. The Cinder Hills was the result of Sunset Crater Volcano that erupted in 1085. Today, Sunset Crater is still the youngest volcano on the Colorado Plateau. This area known for its porous volcanic gravel and numerous volcanic cinder cones and craters surrounded by a ponderosa pine forest environment gives the area its unique value and makes for some great trail riding.
