These OHVs trails are great for enjoying the nature of Idaho without disturbing it. Whether you take the trail or carve your own path this winter, revel in a backyard playground so vast, that you’ll have to come again and again to experience it all.
1.Baumgartner Trails
Location: Featherville, ID
Dates Open: Year-Round
Fees: Free
Take I-84 East to Exit 95
Turn left (north-east) off the exit ramp onto Sun Valley Hwy/US-20, continue about 31 miles
Turn left (north) onto Hwy 61, continue 28 miles
Veer right (east) onto Baumgartner Road, continue 9.8 miles
Turn right (south-east) onto Forest Service Road 487, continue about .5 mile toward Baumgartner Campground.
Idaho OHV registration sticker is need. And here have the limit to noise and vehicles sizes. Camping and campfire only permitted in developed sites only.
2.Canfield Mountain Trail System
Location: Nettleton Gulch Road, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
Dates Open: Year-Round
Fees: Free
Take I-90 to Exit 14
At end of ramp turn west on E. Hazel Avenue
At T-intersection turn right (north) on N 15th Street, continue about 1 mile
Turn right (east) on E. Nettleton Gulch Road
Continue about 2 miles
Staging area will be on your right
Take I-90 to Exit 15
At base of ramp turn right (east) on E. Sherman Avenue
Proceed about 5 1/2 miles to the staging area.
This track is 12800 acres and has 2250 to 4250 ft. Cause the steep terrain, this place is mostly recommend to amateur.
3.Caribou Loop Trail
Location: Tincup Road, Wayan, ID 83285
Dates Open: June through late fall
Fees: Free
Take Hwy 34 North about 43 miles
Turn left on Tincup Road, stage here.
Take Hwy 89 South about 3 miles
Staging area is on the right (west).
From Hwy 89 take Trail Drive east about 1 mile
Staging area is on the left.
Take Hwy 89 South about 45 miles
Turn left (east) onto FS Road 10072/Smith Fork Road
Continue .4 miles
Staging area is on the left.
This trail system is over the borders of Idaho and Wyoming. Although the trail is mostly hard pack and muddy and loose dirt but designed to be a leisure type, make it perfect for beginners.
4.Casino Creek
Location: Little Casino Creek Road, Stanley, ID 83728
Dates Open: May 1 through November 30
Fees: Free
Take Hwy 75 North about 65 miles
Turn right (south) onto dirt road, continue about 1 mile toward Casino Creek Campground.
This track is only open for motorcycles and dirt bikes. Camping and campfire is only permitted in developed sites.
5.Claypeak Recreation Area
Location: 2560 Highway 52, Payette, ID 83661
Dates Open: Daily dawn to dusk
Fees: Free
Take SR-52 SE about 2 miles
Turn left (north) on Landfill Access Road, continue .4 miles
Veer left at fork, follow to park entrance.
Jeeps and Dune buggy is prohibited as well as camping. Visit the website often and check calendar for upcoming events.
6.Danskin Mountains OHV Area
Location:Blacks Creek Road, Boise, ID 83716
Dates Open: April 11 - December 31
Fees: Free
Take I-84 South to Exit 64 (Blacks Creek Road)
Turn left (east) off the ramp onto Blacks Creek Road, continue 6.3 miles
Veer left at fork to stay on Blacks Creek Road, continue 4 miles
First staging area (Three Point Mountain) is on the right and is good for ATVs
Continue further for additional staging that is better for accessing the motorcycle-only trails (Bender Creek and Willow Creek staging areas).
From downtown of Mountain Home, take Canyon Creek Road north
Veer left at the fork on Mayfield Road
Continue about 10 miles to Case Creek trailhead (on the left).
This off-road spot is a huge area with 160 miles of trail. There are good variety of terrain and good views.
7.Devil’s Corral
Location: Shoshone Falls Road, Jerome, ID 83338
Dates Open: Year-Round
Fees: Free
Take US-93 North about 5 miles
After crossing the Perrine Bridge, turn right (east) on Shoshone Falls Road, continue about 100 yards
Parking is on the right (south).
The area is open year-round but camping is nor permitted. Almost all types of vehicles are permitted. And its very friendly to novice.
8.Elk City Wagon Road
Location: 104 Main Street, Elk City, ID 83525
Dates Open: Year-Round
Fees: Free
Take Hwy 14 West about 12 miles
Turn right (north) onto Newsome Bridge Road, continue 3 miles
Sing Lee Campground is on the right (east).
For Newsome Creek Campground:
Continue north past Sing Lee Campground about .5 miles
Campground entrance is on the right (east).
For Elk City Trailhead:
Take Hwy 14 to intersection for Main Stree
Look for kiosk with pavilion and kiosk.
The main route is mostly hard pack with loose dirt and rock bt a few side trail to explore. All types of OHVs is permitted and the camping is allow in developed sites only.
9.Fourth of July Pass ATV Trails
Location: Copper Mountain Road, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814
Dates Open: April - September 7
Fees: Free
Take I-90 East to Exit 28
Turn left (north) off the exit ramp and go over bridge
Turn right (south-east) onto Copper Road, continue .25 miles
Staging area is on the right.
The trail has around 35 miles and the terrain is mostly hard pack and the elevation is challenge but can lat visitors see the great scenes.
